Introduction To Crooked River Arabians

Crooked River Arabians has been breeding Arabians and Half-Arabians since 1981.  Dale purchased his first Arabian from Royal Phillips in 1971 and I purchased my first Half-Arabian in 1973.  When we married, our mutual interest became Crooked River Arabians.  We purchased our foundation mare, Danndees Rafnique, in 1981 and have her fourth generation descendents on the farm today.

Our original mares were domestic bred, as was our first stallion, Prince Garris.  We became interested in Egyptian bloodlines through our friendship with Kitty Crouch and have several horses sired by her stallions Sir White Moon and Tomoniet RSI.  Our stallion Aziz Ibn Abi, who we bred, is one of these.  We purchased our Straight Egyptian Stallion, Anchor Hill Faser, from Lazelle Atkinson in 1989 as a two year old.  He was everything we could have hoped for in a show and breeding stallion, as well as a perfect gentleman and companion.

Our breeding philosophy is to use various bloodlines to produce horses that embody true Arabian type and character.  We are a hands-on farm, doing most of our own work with the horses so we know their true character and disposition from the day they are born.  This philosophy has led to our interest in Half-Arabians.  Rather than change purebred Arabians into something far removed from their origins, we breed Half-Arabians as specialty horses.  They are the ultimate designer horse, combining the integrity of purebred Arabians with the best other breeds have to offer along with the fascination of a wide range of colors and coat patterns.  And it is so much fun during foaling season anticipating what we might get and then seeing what comes out!

Due to a variety of circumstances, we have decided to cut down on our breeding program.  We are offering to lease most of our mares and some of them are also for sale. See the mares page for information on this opportunity.  Crooked River Arabians specializes in the breeding end of the Arabian horse business.  Dale, as a veterinarian,  has a special interest in equine reproductive work as well as years of experience with our own and client horses.  We offer horses for sale, stallion services, transported semen services, and foaling  service on a limited basis.  We have video monitors in the foaling stalls and usually Dale is on hand in case of trouble.  We currently have four Arabian stallions at stud as well as a registered Paint stallion.  We have two young Straight Egyptian stallions that will be available at stud next year.  See the stallions page for more information.
