KCnet Configuration Settings

Windows 3.x

Unlike Windows 95 and NT, Windows 3.x doesn't contain the built-in capability to connect to the Internet.  Therefore, you will need to load a TCP/IP Stack and Dialer in order to establish a winsock connection.

Trumpet Winsock

Trumpet Winsock is a shareware dialer for Windows 3.x.  It will establish the required winsock connection to an Internet Provider that will allow you to use the various internet applications such as web browsers and email packages.  If you currently have Trumpet, or have used it in the past, you can use it to access KCnet.  We do not recommend Trumpet for the novice user.   For the Windows 3.x novice, we recommend Netscape Navigator Personal Edition.

Download (twsk20b.zip)

  1. If you have not installed Trumpet on your PC, copy the twsk.zip to a temporary directory and unZip it to the directory c:\trumpet.
  2. Make a Program Group for your internet applications.  If you have an existing Internet Program Group you can use it.
  3. Make an icon for trumpet in your Internet Program Group.  Use c:\trumpet\tcpman.exe for the command line.
  4. Double-click the Trumpet icon to open the program.  The first time you open Trumpet, you will see a Network Configuration Screen.  Complete the table according to: Trumpet Winsock Screen Shots
  5. After completing Step 4, you will need to exit and restart Trumpet.
  6. After restarting Trumpet, Select Dialler | Edit Scripts and choose login.cmd
  7. A Windows Notepad editor will open showing the contents of login.cmd .  REPLACE ALL EXISTING TEXT WITH THE FOLLOWING:  Trumpet login.cmd.
  8. Exit the Notepad editor and save these changes
  9. When you are back at the main Trumpet screen, select File | PPP Options.  Enable Password Authentication Protocol and enter your assigned username and password (lowercase).  Click OK. Trumpet is now configured.
