News Configuration for KCnet
Included with every
account is access to our news (NNTP) server. You will need to
logon to the KCnet news server using your KCnet email address and your
password. There are several easy to
use, graphical news clients available. Four of the most popular are:

To configure Microsoft
Internet News for use with KCnet, complete the following steps:
- With Internet News
open, click News | Options
- Select the Servers
Tab
- Enter your Real
Name in the Name field.
- Enter your
username@kcnet.com in the Email Address field.
- Next, click the
add button in the News server field
- Select the General
Tab and Enter news.kcnet.com in the News Server field.
- Select the
Connection Tab and click "I use a modem to access my newsgroups"
- From the pull-down
window, select KCnet as your dialup networking connection - click OK
- Click OK again

Download Netscape Software
To configure Netscape
Navigator news for use with KCnet, complete the following steps:
- With Netscape
Navigator open, click Options | Mail and News Preferences.
- Click the Servers
Tab.
- Enter
mail.kcnet.com in both the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) and Incoming Mail
(POP) Server fields.
- Enter your
username in the POP Account Field.
- Enter
news.kcnet.com in the News (NNTP) Server field to configure Netscape
News.
- Next, click the
Identity Tab.
- Enter your real
name in the Your Name field.
- Enter your
username@kcnet.com in the Your Email field.
- Enter your
username@kcnet.com in the Reply-to Address field.
- Then, click the
Organization Tab.
- If you want
Netscape to remember your email password, check the Remember Mail
box.
- Finally, click the
OK button at the bottom of the screen.

Download Netscape Software
To configure Netscape
Communicator news for use with KCnet, complete the following steps:
- With Netscape
Communicator open, click Edit | Preferences.
- Click the "Mail &
Groups" branch from the main tree in the Category Window.
- Select the
sub-branch "Identity"
- Enter your real
name in the "Your Name" field.
- Enter your
username@kcnet.com in the "Email Address" field.
- Then, select the
sub-branch "Mail Server"
- Enter your
username in the "Mail Server Username" field.
- Enter
mail.kcnet.com in both the "Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail Server"
fields.
- Then, select the
sub-branch "Groups Server"
- Enter
news.kcnet.com in the "Discussion Groups (news) Server" field to
configure Netscape News.
- Finally, click the
OK button at the bottom of the screen.

Download Free Agent
Free Agent is a popular
news client that is, as its name implies, FREE.
If this is the first time you have used agent, a dialogue box will
appear. Enter news.kcnet.com in the News (NNTP) Server field Enter
mail.kcnet.com in the Mail (SMTP) Server field Enter username@kcnet.com
in the Email Address field Enter your real name in the Full Name field.
If you have used Agent
before, do the following:
- Click Options |
General Preferences
- Select the
identity tab
- Enter username@kcnet.com
in the Email Address field
- Enter your real
name in the Full Name field.
- Next, click the
server tab.
- Enter
news.kcnet.com in the News (NNTP) Server field
- Enter
mail.kcnet.com in the Mail (SMTP) Server field

The Microsoft Internet
Explorer version 4.0 has an email program called Outlook Express. To
configure this package for KCnet's news settings, do the following:
- In Explorer 4.0,
click the Mail Icon and select Read Mail
- After Outlook
Express has opened, click the Tools menu and select Accounts.
- Select the News
Tab
- Click the Add
button and select News
- Enter your Real
Name in the Display Name field and click Next.
- Enter your
username@kcnet.com in the Email Address field and click Next.
- Type in lower case
letters "news.kcnet.com" for the news server. Click Next.
- Click the Finish
button to close out of the configuration screen.

The new Microsoft
Internet Explorer version 5.0 has an email program called Outlook
Express. To configure this package for KCnet's news settings, do the
following:
- In Explorer 5.0,
click the Mail Icon and select Read Mail
