On Thursday, Mar 8, 2007, from 1:00 PM to 8:45 PM we
experienced a major disruption of service on our DSL network.
Feb 2007
During the hours of
2:00AM - 6:00AM CST on Tuesday, February 13th, 2007 we will be upgrading
the IOS software on the core router for our dialup network. Expected
downtime is approximately 20 minutes.

On Friday, Jan. 26, 2007
at 5:30 AM CST we will be performing maintenance on our Kansas City POP.
During the maintenance users will experience dropped calls and busy
signals. Expected down time for this maintenance is 15 minutes.
Users can utilize alternate access numbers during this time period from
area suburbs such as Blue Springs, MO or Olathe, KS. A complete

On Monday, Dec. 04, 2006 KCnet received a distributed denial-of-service
(DDoS) attack that started at 8:00 AM and lasted until 11:40 PM.
As a result of this attack, traffic to and from our network traveling
through our Sprint backbone connection was severely impaired. Traffic
traveling through our other backbone connections was unaffected.
Although we have
identified and resolved the problem, we are continuing to actively
monitor the situation. We thank you for your understanding and apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

KCnet has expanded our newsgroup service to now allow access from all of
our KCnet access services, both dial-up and high speed DSL.
Because of this change, you will now need to logon to the KCnet news
server, news.kcnet.com, with your KCnet email address and your password.

Security Alert
Over the past several days, users have been receiving email reportedly
from KCnet informing them their account will be suspended if they don't
perform a specific task. The tasks mentioned range from opening a
file attachment and installing the contained application to clicking a
link in the message. These messages are NOT from KCnet
and you should do nothing accept delete the message.
If you have already attempted to open the
attachment or click the link, we highly recommend you scan your system
with up-to-date antivirus software.

KCnet is proud to announce the
availability of Dial-up Accelerator. Dial-up Accelerator
allows you to surf the Internet at speeds up to 6 times faster
than normal dial-up service. KCnet's Dial-up Accelerator
is available for free to GOLD dial-up subscribers or just $4.95
per month with all other plans. To add Dial-up Accelerator

On 12/18/2004 AOL added KCnet's mail server addresses to their temporary
block list. As a result, KCnet users were unable to send email to
users of AOL's service. This block has now been removed and email
service to AOL's network has been restored. We are
currently working with members of AOL's staff to help insure a similar
situation does not occur again in the future. We are sorry for any
inconvenience this may have caused.

Introducing
open-Access DSL service from KCnet. With most
DSL services today, phone service from the local telephone company is
required. KCnet's open-Access DSL is broadband service that does not
require local phone service. open-Access DSL is a dedicated data line
that offers the superior connection quality and all the features of
standard DSL services.

KCnet has launched a new web email system.
The new web email offers a wide variety of new tools such as custom
folders and address books. If you would still like to use the old
webmail system, you can do so here.

located in the Kansas City area due to some maintenance work on the

During this period, users will not be able to access KCnet's
816-502-0021 and 816-936-1004 access numbers located in the Kansas City
area. Non-dedicated users can dial 816-410-0099 or 816-448-0040 as
an alternative. Dedicated users should not make any changes.

hours.
Beginning June 1, 2004 KCnet will be adjusting our office hours for the
summer season. Our office will be open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and 12:00 pm to 5:00
pm Sunday.

Important notice about holiday hours.
KCnet will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day.
However, our office will still be open on Friday, May 28 from 8am to
8pm; Saturday, May 29 from 9am to 5pm; and Sunday, May 30 from 12pm to
5pm.
Therefore, if you plan on making any changes to your account for the
June billing cycle that begins on June 1st, you will need to contact our
office prior to close of business on Sunday, May 30, which is 5pm.

KCnet has increased the amount of disk space, disk
traffic, and POP email boxes included with select Web
Hosting Plans. Effective May 1, 2004. In addition, KCnet
has added support for ASP.net*.
*ASP.net is only available on select
servers. If you would like to utilize ASP.net, you will need to
request your site be relocated to one of these new servers.

Security Alert
A security issue has been identified that could allow
an attacker to compromise a computer running Microsoft® Windows® and gain
control over it. This vulnerability effects Microsoft Windows
NT® 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000 , Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows
Server™ 2003. More information on this vulnerability can be
found at
microsoft.com. If you believe your system has already been
infected by the W32.Blaster.Worm, a virus that is able to exploit the
above mentioned vulnerability, you can download a fix at
norton.com.
KCnet highly recommends you keep your computer
updated with the latest security patches and fixes. You can do this
by periodically visiting
windowsupdate.microsoft.com or clicking the Windows Update icon from
your Start menu.

In a continuing effort to improve the quality of our
service, we have changed the access numbers for our St. Louis POP.
The new numbers are 314-226-2001 or 314-885-2005 and should be toll-free
calls*. In addition, the login method utilized when
connecting to KCnet has also changed, you will now need to append @kcnet.com
to the end of your current dialup username. Example:
username@kcnet.com Please note that all St. Louis subscribers
will need to change to one of these new dialup numbers immediately.

KCnet has added a new email filtering tool to
further help you keep junk email out of your inbox. The new tool,
SpamAssassin, uses intelligent filtering to search the content of the
email you receive to determine if it is junk mail or not. The
SpamAssassin filter works independently of the KCnet Email Filters, so you
will not be able to use both simultaneously. You can access
the email filters from the
Members Only section
of this website.

For the past two years KCnet has partnered with
Looksmart in order to provide portal content to KCnet's users.
Looksmart, has partnered with many ISP's to provide similar services.
Recently, Looksmart announced they would be discontinuing these services
to its ISP partners.
This has given KCnet the opportunity to create
a more customized portal targeted for our users local to the Kansas City
and St. Louis areas. This page can be accessed by clicking the

KCnet has updated our email filter tool to
incorporate a new easier to use interface, along with adding user
enabled filters for adult subject matter and filtering by the subject

At 2:30pm, the building, which houses KCnet's Kansas
City facility, experienced a major power failure. At 4:30pm, when
emergency crews verified it was safe to do so, KCnet restored backup power
to all primary systems and Kansas City users were able to login and
access the Internet. Full power was later restored to the building
at 9:30pm. This outage only affected dialup and dedicated access in
the Kansas City area.

KCnet has upgraded all Windows NT hosted websites utilizing
Frontpage. The following changes need to be made when publishing
your website:
Non-Domain Commercial FrontPage websites should be
published to biz.kcnet.com/your-site-name.
Personal FrontPage websites should be published to home.kcnet.com/username.
Further instructions regarding publishing and
maintaining your website with FrontPage can be found in the Help
section of our website.

At approximately 8:45 pm Monday evening until 12:30am Tuesday morning, we experienced
some problems with our outgoing, SMTP, mail server. This outage affected some
customers ability to send email, but did not affect their ability to
receive incoming mail from our POP email server.

Netscape Browser Upgrade Recommendation:
Netscape Communicator version 4.05 or earlier and Microsoft Internet
Explorer 4.01 for Macintosh include a root CA certificate set to expire at
the end of 1999. Users of these browsers will experience an additional
dialog box when connecting to a secure website after January 1, 2000.
(This is only a user interface issue: root CA certificate expiration does
not affect SSL encryption.) Click

your data number to one of the 2 digital lines: 410-0099 or 502-0021.
The 221-3663 number is in the process of being phased out.
All Users: KCnet is currently
undergoing a network upgrade. As a result, the Domain Name Server
(DNS) addresses will change. Your machine will need to have the
proper settings for it to continue to work properly on the Internet.

KCnet has increased the online time limits
associated with the 'Gold' and Multilink PPP Dialup Accounts to 250 hours
a month. 'Standard' Dialup accounts have been increased to 25 hours
per month. In addition, KCnet has reduced the charge incurred for

Service Report - Saturday, November 28, 1998
At approximately 2:00 pm Saturday afternoon, we
experienced a severe power failure that affected both the primary and
backup power feeds to the building. The power company had a crew out
through the night digging up and replacing lines until power was restored
early Sunday morning. This outage affected some of our web site
customers and access to the usenet news server.
