System Requirements
KCnet's inter-Access ADSL STANDARD service uses PPPoE software (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) to obtain an IP address and connect to the Internet. The provided PPPoE software is compatible with the following operating systems:

Win 95/98
Win ME
Win XP Home
Win XP Professional
Win 2000
Win NT 4.X

Mac OS 8.6
Mac OS 9.1 or higher
Mac OS X v10.1

Operating systems other than the ones listed above are responsible for providing and supporting their own PPPoE software.

Customers must have a 10Base-T (Ethernet) network interface card (NIC) installed and working in their computer prior to self installation.  KCnet does not provide NICs.

Phone Line Requirements
KCnet's inter-Access ADSL services are provided via line sharing which means your DSL service will be set up on the same line as your voice service.  Since there is no need for a second line, there is generally no need for a technician to visit your home or office to complete the installation.

There are certain technical limitations of line sharing that you should be aware of before you order inter-Access ADSL services from KCnet.

  1. You must have local telephone service through the Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC). This is your local phone company and must be one of the following providers:

    • Southwestern Bell/SBC
    • Pacific Bell
    • Ameritech
    • Verizon
    • Bell South
    • Qwest
    • SNET

    KCnet cannot provide line shared services if your local phone company is not one of these providers.

  2. The information on your KCnet order (name, address, and telephone number) must be an exact match to the information on your local phone bill, or KCnet will not be able to process your order.

  3. There are certain advanced voice services that you may be using that are not compatible with line sharing. Some of these are:

    • Centrex
    • PBX
    • Key Systems

    KCnet cannot provide inter-Access tm ADSL services on any lines that contains one of these advanced voice services
