Our Mission

CDD's Mission is to support persons with disabilities in achieving their fullest potential.

CDD is a private, not for profit corporation founded in 1972. We provide housing, residential care, and support services 365 days per year to adults with developmental disabilities in the greater Kansas City area. In addition, CDD provides housing for persons with persistent mental illness in Kansas City, Kansas. Nationally accredited by CARF, the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission. CDD maintains the highest standards in the rehabilitation field to provide quality residential options.

The following beliefs guide CDD's mission and planning:

We Believe

  • Everyone has the ability to learn, grow and maintain skills.

  • With encouragement and assistance, everyone can make lifestyle choices.

  • Lives are enriched through social relationships, active community involvement and access to comfortable, safe residential opportunities.

  • Everyone has the means to express themselves, to communicate, to interact and develop relationships, resulting in a positive self image.

Persons Served

CDD supports persons 18 years of age and older with developmental disabilities whose primary disability is mental retardation. A developmental disability is a condition attributable to mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, or other neurological conditions, which are closely related to mental retardation, or require treatment similar to that required by mental retardation. In addition, a developmental disability is one that originates before the age of twenty-two. The disability must also be expected to continue indefinitely and constitute a substantial handicap.

Funding

CDD is a private, not-for-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Missouri. We are designated as tax exempt by the Internal Revenue Service under section 501 (c)(3). CDD is funded on a contractual basis with the Missouri Department of Mental Health. Significant housing subsidies are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Jackson County Board of Services for Developmentally Disabled.
